|WP16 - Brain Bank Organisation|
Brain bank management has undergone significant changes in a number of EC countries in the last few years and there is a need to reassure both the users of brain banks and the general public that the brain banks to which human material is donated, and which serve as a source of research samples, are properly run.
To update the guidelines in the literature on efficient brain bank management in the light of changing legal and ethical constraints in the various EC countries is one goal of this work package.
Ongoing review of brain bank management will consider evolving legislation on import/export rules in different countries.
The purpose of this work package is to offer guidelines for what may be required for the establishment of a brain bank which would be appropriate to its setting, whether that be hospital or university based.
