© BrainNet Europe II
BrainNet Europe is a "Network of Excellence" funded by the European Commission in the 6th Framework Program "Life Science" (LSHM-CT-2004-503039). It consists of 19 established brain banks across Europe and is coordinated by the Centre for Neuropathology and Prion Research Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany.
|WP09 - Mystery Cases|
The work package on "Mystery Cases" requires contribution by the most experienced neuropathologists. Cases with difficult, atypical or uncertain neuropathological features, including cases of dementia without major defined pathology will be made available from all participating brain banks for exhaustive further examinations. WP09 will study and exchange tissues from such cases. A consensus diagnostic opinion will be sought by all available methodologies, including immunocytochemistry, eventual electron microscopy, molecular biologic analysis, immunoblotting, experimental transmission etc.
Cases without a consensus diagnosis will not be used for Brain Banking services, but earmarked for further research.
