Institute Presentation

Brain Bank expertise in Würzburg has been established at the Department of Psychiatry, Clinical Neurochemstry since 1986. In 1999 the Brank Bank Center Würzburg was established closely linked to the BrainNet Germany (Coordinator: Dr. Hans Kretzschmar, Institute for Neuropathology and Prion Research, Munich) as a cooperation of the Departments of Pathology, Neuropathology and Neurology. Until now about 180 brains have been collected according to the BrainNet Germany tissue sampling protocol including cases with Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases and control cases.

The research activities of these institutions in corporation with the Brain Bank Center are designed to get better insights into molecular pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases using chip technology.
